About Men Va Fan!

"Men va fan" is Swedish for roughly "what the hell". It's what you say when something is both ridiculous and worth caring about, which describes punk pretty well.

The original site, 2001–2016

Men Va Fan! went online in 2001, built by a small group of friends from the Stockholm punk scene. It was a proper early-2000s homemade site: hand-written HTML, tested in Opera "because it looks best there", a guestbook, an IRC chat and a web front-end for the alt.punk newsgroups.

It collected whatever the crew found interesting: a library of punk MP3s, tributes to the Stockholm venues Ultrahuset and Hunddagiset, scanned zine pages, a punk FAQ, pages about AIK, Celtic and St. Pauli, a cookbook of drink recipes, GNU and Linux texts in Swedish, and an "Anarchist Melanie C Fanclub" that was exactly as serious as it sounds.

Updates slowed down around 2009. The site stayed online for a few more years and disappeared around 2017. Screenshots, the full section list and a timeline are in the Men Va Fan! museum.

The site now

We are not the original crew, and we don't pretend to be. We took over the expired domain in 2026 and are rebuilding it as a magazine about punk and alternative music: bands, records, scenes, books and zines, DIY culture and terrace football. We kept the old section names (Musik, böcker, annat, fotboll, pirat, geek) so that old links still land somewhere that makes sense.

We don't re-host the old MP3s or other people's zines. If you made something that used to live here and want it credited or linked, get in touch.

Most articles are in English, with some in Swedish — på svenska här.

Accessibility

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. Every release is tested automatically with axe-core across all page types, and checked for keyboard navigation with a visible focus indicator, reflow at 320px (400% zoom) without horizontal scrolling, and increased text spacing. Pages use real headings, landmarks and language tags (English and Swedish), decorative illustrations are hidden from screen readers, and animations stop when your system asks for reduced motion.
